Several years ago, while conducting our Operation Uplift ministry for the homeless in Memphis, I was attending my church away from home. As I listened to God speaking through His servant from the pulpit, I found the sermon to be a kind of checklist. As he progressed through the message, I was suddenly examining the characteristics of a jewel whom God placed in my life (to be identified later).

1. The jewel was precious. (Proverbs 31:10; 11b, 23)

2. The jewel was loyal. (Proverbs 31:11a, 12)

3. The jewel was generous. (Proverbs 31:20)

4. The jewel was wise. (Proverbs 31:26)

5. The jewel was praise worthy (Proverbs 31:28-31)

6. The jewel was an outstanding worker (Proverbs 31:13-19, 21-22, 24-25, 27)

And who was this jewel in my life?

She was my beloved grandmother who was so  generous, she would raise me even though, before I arrived, she had just finished raising an adopted son. Although she was financially poor, she gave me everything I could possibly need and the fact that she raised me up in the ways of the Lord was her best gift.

She was loyal. She brought me good, not harm even when she administered corporal punishment which I deserved.

This jewel was precious  A wife and a grandmother who became my second mama was worth more than any amount of wealth because of the Christian life she lived. Beyond reading her Bible and praying daily, she walked the talk which was more powerful than what she could say…… fact, so powerful, I found myself copying some of her behavior not fully understanding at the time that this was grounded in the Gospel.

She was wise. Although she never went beyond a fifth grade education, that amounted to nothing because wisdom is not always knowledge. Soloman describes such an individual as "one who speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue".

She was an outstanding worker who lived during the Great Depression era. She worked in the WPA Program which was created during the Roosevelt Administration to help individuals who were suffering from being unemployed.  Her assignment was to operate a school lunchroom. After standing on a concrete floor all day, she often performed home chores as late as two o’clock in the morning before finally retiring,  Allow me to quickly say that the work which mothers have to perform is often diminished or completely forgotten and, yet, what they do can often far surpass any work achievements outside the home.

So, all of this should tell you who educated me on the Christian work ethic  which would one day form the foundation for our ministry.

And, while the work ethic is on my mind, allow me to finally say she was praiseworthy. If my grandmother were here today, I would use the words of Solomon to praise her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all"

I did not write this message just to focus on my Christian grandmother. I know you would agree with me that the greatest gift which God has given us is His son.  But, I also believe the second greatest gift is the one who has raised us (mother and father)  especially when it is done in the ways of the Lord.

As we celebrate Mother's Day later this month, let me not forget that my precious mother was always supportive of my Grandmother. She understood that conflict between two mamas could harm me in many ways.  There is no substitute for unity when raising any child.

In closing, I invite you to join me on our YouTube channel.  Click below and you will find 28 recorded messages including one-minute presentations for those who have a heavy schedule.....

I look forward to being with you in June.   In the meantime, I must be about my Father's business.

Very truly yours,

We invite you to visit our ITINERARY PAGE where you will find major happenings in          Worker Ministries for 2024 and they include the following:

        OCTOBER 19 - 23, 2024

We have always understood the importance of being on the cutting edge of technology as a major vehicle for quality service and promoting the Christian work ethic throughout the world.

Upon reaching our tenth anniversary, our new web site was completely redesigned by Rick Martin, our Director of Technical Services. This site enables us to provide interesting and far reaching technology features which visitors to the site can enjoy using.

We also replaced all of our computer equipment at our world headquarters at Elon North Carolina with new state-of-the-art technology that is second to none!

There have been several attempts to hack our web site including one such threat from an individual in Saudi Arabia.  Such dastardly deeds failed because we have built several walls around the site which become our "Secret Service Agents" for blocking anyone from damaging the site.

In 2013, we formed a partnership with Constant Contact, the world's number one on-line e-mail market organization.  Their outstanding service assures that our monthly newsletter will be swiftly delivered to 10,000 subscribers throughout the world.

Stay tuned and we will keep you posted concerning all exciting developments in a ministry that is reaching out to thousands from Elon to New York to Honolulu to China!

OPERATION UPLIFT is a specific strategy which enables our ministry to literally go underground to reach out to important souls created by God Almighty. These are real human beings who have become wanderers in the wilderness! They are known as "the homeless".

Kathy Perkinson, Vice President of  Worker Ministries  says, "Poverty will never be eliminated until these individuals find their purpose for living and become employed so they can fulfill their purpose based on the will of God! Helping them find their mission becomes OUR mission!

We do not preach to them. We let them know that God loves them and it is not His purpose for them to live on the streets and there is a better life for them if they are willing to find it. We then show them how to move in that direction."

OPERATION UPLIFT is conducted at our Worker Ministries world wide satellite locations.

Visit our ITINERARY page on this web site to keep up with our schedule and any changes which may become necessary.

Thanks to Rick Martin, our Director of Technical Services, you can now hear live messages from Jim Hogsett as he speaks the plain truth about the Christian work ethic. Simply click on the Audio Messages on our web site home page  and select any message listed on the menu.

Included on our list is an interview which took place when Jim was a guest on the Living Christian Radio Network which originates from Seattle Washington. The interview is significant in that some very critical questions were asked concerning difficulties in living the Christian life in today's workplace. The broadcast also enabled us to carry our message on how to live the Christian life in the workplace to workers in Canada and in the western half of our country.

We hope these messages will provide further help as you work on living the CHRISTIAN life in the workplace.
